The 2023 Junior Championships took place at Middlesbrough Golf Club Sunday 16 July, on a very windy but dry day and the scores reflected these difficult conditions.
Congratulations to the new Yorkshire Junior Girls' Champion & Elliot Trophy winner Amy Staveley (Ganton) who strode to victory 5 shots clear from Molly Campbell (Rotherham) with a even Par 146 over both rounds - no mean feat indeed. 3rd place went to last years winner Abigail Taylor of Headingley with 156.
Amy also qualified for the Justin Rose Daily Telegraph competition and will also represent Yorkshire at The Champion of Champions competition in September at Woodall Spa
Emily Garbutt from Middlesbrough settled well on her home course for the Junior Championship held on 16 July 2023. Despite the fact there were tricky conditions due to high winds. Emily scored a nett 70 in Round 1 and a nett 76 in round 2 . Runner-up Sophia Rudd also of Middlesbrough with147.

Jessie continued her in-form season with a close win over Ava McDaid of Leeds Golf Centre with a score of 36pts to Ava's 34pts. This brings her tally to three wins out of three after securing The Foursomes with sister Poppy at the start of the season followed by her triumph just two weeks earlier at Halifax West End. Her handicap is tumbling down as she has dropped 12 shots in two weeks.
A huge congratulations and one to watch for the future.
Congratulations to Olivia Brodie (Horsforth GC) on capping a fabulous season and becoming the Division 1 Order of Merit Winner with Grace Gill (Garforth GC) coming 2nd
Jessie Lane (Waterfront GC) finished the season 10 points clear of her nearest rival for the trophy, Graci Wood (Malton & Norton GC). Jessie only dropped 1 point all season at Rotherham and finished with a fantastic total of 43 points!
Poppy also had a fabulous year and only dropped 2 points during the season and held onto win with 31 points to second place Abigail Brodie (Cookridge Hall) with 28 points
The final Regional event at Woodsome Hall was played on a very wet course with periods of heavy rain. The girls battled through the day despite the weather and some flooded greens.
1st - Olivia Brodie (Horsforth GC) - 45 points and she also received The Shirley Guest Trophy for the Best Overall Stableford score from both divisions
2nd - Shona Lawson (Bedale GC) 36 points
3rd - Amy Staveley (Ganton GC) 33 points
Winner Jessie Lane continued her fantastic run this season with her 3rd league win.

2nd - Phoebe Underhill (Cookridge Hall) 33 points - playing in her first regional 18 hole competition
Making her debut in the Yorkshire League, the winner was Lily Scott from Hallamshire GC with an impressive 24 Points

On a beautiful sunny day in South Yorkshire the competition was very keen in all the Divisions. Congratulations to the winners. A very close fought battle in Division 1 between home girl Emma and Iona with the result taken to the back 9.

A decisive win for the elder of the Lane sisters Jess who won emphatically by 10 points off the field with a fantastic score of 49 points and a big handicap cut on top. Great start to the season following on from the Foursomes win and her first singles competition in the Yorkshire race to Woodsome Hall league
