The Alison Nicholas Fund

The History

Alison Nicholas was a Yorkshire Junior and a member of Hallamshire Golf Club and went on to play for her County, she won the County Championship and English Amateur Stroke Play Championship, she then turned professional in 1984.

In 1987 she won the British Open Championship followed by various events in the United States Including winning the United States Open Championship in 1997 and was awarded the MBE in 1998.

She played in the Solheim Cup on six occasions and was a regular foursomes partner of Laura Davies. Alison captained the victorious Solheim Cup Team at Killeen Castle Ireland in 2011.

In 1991 she sent a donation to help Juniors in our county and as a result of this the Alison Nicholas Fund was formed. This is topped up with generous donations from Clubs, Ladies Sections, and Individual members, and the money is used to help Yorkshire Juniors and Team Members to purchase new equipment, lessons and entry fees to National Competitions. Each year we distribute in excess of £3000 through this fund. Any Club, Society or individual member wishing to make a donation please use the contact form below to liaise with our administrator Brenda Parker.

The Alison Nicholas Bursary

In recent years the Alison Nicholas AMAM has been held at the home of the current County Captain and the proceeds are donated to the Fund. This has enabled the Fund to offer a Bursary to a Yorkshire girl entering University or College in this Country to help to continue her golfing skills whilst still in full time education.

This will be awarded to a promising Yorkshire Girl golfer who wishes to further her education at University or College within the British Isles and at the same time develop her golfing skills. She should be of English Nationality and been resident in Yorkshire for the past 2 years.

Applications should be sent to the Alison Nicholas Fund Administrator (Brenda Parker) who will provide a recommendation and confidential report and these will submitted to the Alison Nicholas Fund Committee who will make the final decision. Whilst receiving the grant the recipient will be required to provide a statement of their golfing and academic progress before 1st September each year.
