Day 2

Yorkshire took on Somerset and Hertfordshire today and both matches were against very worthy adversaries.
This has been the first time the Yorkshire team have experienced the new format of the Championship and it is certainly proving a challenge.
In the morning session against Somerset both foursomes pairings of Evie Cooke and Katie Stephen’s and Hannah Holden and Rachel Taylor were defeated with both matches finishing on the 15th green .
In the singles probably the toughest match of the day was faced by Beth Norton who fought hard against Patience xxx but eventually went down 3 and 2. On a positive note Mia Eales Smith clocked up another win as did Megan Clarke . A Somerset win 3 points to 2.

In the afternoon Yorkshire took on Hertfordshire and fielded a new pairing with Cherry Marley and Abigail Taylor both making there debut for the first team. Both players were understandably a little nervous and were behind for much of the match.
Both players remained dogged and unfazed and managed to turn the match around in the final few holes, winning on the 18th. A great debut performance for both players. Megan Clarke secured the biggest win of the day with a 5 and 3 victory but unfortunately Yorkshire lost the overall match 3 and 2.

Day 1

A day of two halves for the opening day of the English county finals here in Denham.
The team enjoyed a glorious day yesterday with a practise round in the sunshine and the fine weather continued for much of today.
Yorkshire played in the opening match against home county Buckinghamshire.
It is testament to the quality and depth of the Yorkshire team that they could field a superb team despite losing four players from the team that won the Northern counties title back in June.
Lily Hirst is now studying in Texas, Nicola Slater has commitments to honour in Stirling, Debs Henery has now started a teaching job and Melissa Wood was a late withdrawal with a back injury.
Huddersfield stalwart Hannah Holden and her team mate Rachel Holden led the team out in the morning foursomes against Daisy Kennedy and Lily Robinson.
It was a close match but the Bucks pair eventually ran out the winners.
That was the end of it for Buckinghamshire with all the remaining matches going Yorkshires way. Katie Stephens and Evie Cooke played some superb golf and made a strong pairing whilst Megan Clarke, Mia Eales Smith and Beth Norton all looked invincible in the singles. The win of the day going to Norton with a 6 and 5 win over Alice Kozlowski.

In the afternoon session Yorkshire came up against stern opposition from Surrey and things got somewhat tougher.
Holden and Taylor managed to cling onto their lead and ran out winners against Abbi Rowlands and Olivia Horsford 1 up.
Mia Eales Smith followed up the mornings win with a solid win in the afternoon against Hyundai Ji Kim. That was the end of it for Yorkshire with the remaining matches going Surrey’s way, so 3-2 to Surrey.

Lots of golf still to play and it is bound to be an exciting two days.
