2nd Team v Cheshire 15th August 2021

Left to Right Millie Russell, Aaliyah Hryniewiecka-Irwin, Abigail Taylor, Jess Hosking, Alex Bonfield, Amy Staveley, Zara Ali, Charlotte Colley

The Yorkshire 2nd team travelled to Delamere Forest recently to take on the Cheshire 2nd team. It was a warm day but the teams both had to battle through heavy rain showers at times.
In the morning foursomes the Yorkshire team were under pressure and the only winners of the four games were Zara Ali and, making her 2nd team debut for Yorkshire Aaliyah Hryniewiecka-Irwin from Huddersfield golf club, they had a comfortable 4 and 2 win. So 3-1 down after the morning session.

Perhaps it was the early start that unsettled the team in the morning but after lunch it was a totally different story. The Yorkshire girls rose to the challenge and secured seven wins out of eight , a stunning turn around.
Alex Bonfield who was awarded her county colours at the match got the team off to a flying start with a 3 and 2 win over Cheshires Victoria Turner. This was followed by Ganton player Amy Staveley who secured a 4 and 2 win.
Jess Hosking settled into her game and though all square through sixteen managed to pull a victory out of the bag with wins on the 17th and 18th holes.
Abigail Taylor who along with Hosking in the morning foursomes had not been on her best form certainly changed her game in the afternoon and secured a 6 and 5 win against Emily Fearns Nichol.
Zara Ali ,who also received her county colours on the day ,and Aaliyah Hryniewiecka-Irwin having looked solid in the morning foursomes both secured wins with a 3 and 2 win for Ali and the biggest win of the day for Hryniewiecka-Irwin at 8 and 6. Charlotte Colley who along with Irwin and Millie Russell were playing debut matches for the 2nd team had a tough match against Jessica Turner who was having one of those days where everything drops in the hole. The only singles win for Cheshire but this won’t be the last we see of Colley representing Yorkshire.
The final match saw youngster and debutante Millie Russell from Ganton secure a resounding win of 7 and 6 over Ffion Jones.
Yorkshire winning the day 8 points to 4.
Cheshire were great hosts and all the girls thoroughly enjoyed the Delamere Forest course. They were excellent ambassadors for the county and all matches were played with great spirit and camaraderie.
